Boyd's Coffee® Introduces Tanzanian Peaberry Coffee

It's a tiny coffee bean that packs mighty flavor, and it's called a peaberry. The peaberry is also well known to Tanzanian coffee growers who specialize in sorting and selling these rare little coffee gems. Boyd's Coffee was able to procure a limited quantity of these fine beans for our winter/spring coffee offering, Tanzanian Peaberry, which is available now.

 

"Commonly, coffee beans come two beans to a coffee cherry," explained Bevin Proehl, Senior Coffee Specialist at Boyd's Coffee. "However, in only about five percent of all coffees, a peaberry can form, which is a single seed inside the cherry. Peaberries may be smaller, but they have a rich sweetness and bright acidity that will make you fall in love with this coffee."

 

Boyd's Tanzanian Peaberry originates from the Rift Valley near Mt. Kilimanjaro, a region well-renowned for high-quality coffees grown on small farms, according to Randy Layton,Vice President of Coffee Operations and Boyd's Roastmaster.

 

"This 100% Arabica peaberry coffee was also grown at more than 4,000 feet (1,500 meters), qualifying it as a sought-after Strictly High Grown coffee. Slow growth at high altitude allows for complex flavor development," Randy said. "In addition, this region's peaberry coffees are offered for auction, which helps the growers get the best price possible."

 

 "It is ideal as a breakfast coffee or all-day coffee," Randy concluded. "Tanzanian Peaberry is truly a rare gemstone among coffees, and our customers and consumers alike will enjoy it."
